Dear Editor,

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Airdrie, to our local media for your continued support and our supporters who believe in our vision and mission. This little group was founded 36-and-a-half years ago based on a need of some residents who didn’t have a local support circle. Not everyone is fortunate enough to be part of a great neighbour connection, a devoted church group, have family close by or budgets that permit other means of delivery. Some people genuinely struggle just asking for help knowing how busy the world we live in is.

On a personal note I’d like to mention the benefits I have received from being part of this organization. Whether in personal, business or volunteering, the big thing is know your why. Representing this group comes easy to me as I have witnessed firsthand the loneliness of people that are shut in for any reason – the impact it has on mental health, as well as physical healing. Regardless of the age we are living in, where communication tools are at an all-time high, sadly we are missing the mark on actual personal connection.

Airdrie Meals On Wheels volunteer drivers provide more than that prepared nutritious meal. The friendly, “How are you doing today,” is worth more than any meal in my books. The fact that the organization is able to reach out to supporters in order to keep meals affordable is an added bonus. Regardless of an individual’s circumstance, isn’t everyone entitled to a tasty, nutritious meal? Because of the passion that runs deep, I personally have been able to get up in front of rooms full of people and physically to publicly speak – not a task I ever took on before volunteering for this group. Volunteering has given me confidence and courage to better myself on behalf of a group that is deserving. Volunteering is good for a person’s personal growth.

In closing, on behalf of Airdrie Meals on Wheels volunteers and board members, we’d like to extend a year end greeting to our supporters and clients. As 2019 becomes history, we look ahead to 2020 with excitement and hope for a fantastic year. Thank you.
