Re: “Little opposition to police training centre” Nov. 9.

Dear editor,

When I read this article, I was bewildered and wondered if the reporter had been at the same meeting I attended on Nov. 3. Not one person voiced their support for this proposal!

Most of concerns expressed regarded the choice of prime agricultural land for a project that could make use of marginal land for a shooting range and driver-training track. One lady did say that she had been in favour of the centre but when she found out why residents were in opposition to the choice of site, she wasn’t sure anymore.

Ninety-five per cent of residents (about 60) living within earshot of this proposal have signed a petition against CPS’ plans for this parcel. It is amusing that the plans show a wetland area in the middle of the project; what bird will want to nest next to shooting range?

The County of Rocky View has stated in its mission statement that it wants to protect agricultural land. I guess we will see if our councillors practice what they preach when this application comes before council.
