Highlighting the importance of safety

RE: “Crossfield student reminds kids to PLAYSAFE,” article, Nov. 6. Dear Editor, On behalf of The War Amps, I would like to thank reporter Christina Waldner, for recognizing Owen Gabriel, a local member of The War Amps Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program, and CHAMP Graduate, Maria Tourani. Owen and Maria encouraged students at Crossfield Elementary School to “spot the danger before they play.” They are well qualified to pass on the PLAYSAFE message, as they have met children who have lost limbs in accidents that could have been prevented. Stories like this highlight the importance of the safety message and bring awareness to the many vital programs The War Amps offers for all Canadian amputees. Thanks to the public’s continued support of the Key Tag and Address Label Service, our commitment remains to improve the lives of amputees, like Owen and Maria, long into the future.  Danita Chisholm Executive Director, CHAMP Program The War Amps
