Drivers, take care behind the wheel

Dear editor

Our daughter was walking to school on the morning of Nov. 23. The crosswalk she uses is located at the intersection of Summerfield Blvd. and Main St.

Because it is such a busy intersection, she looks both ways before entering the crosswalk.

On this morning, a gentleman was travelling north in a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) and chose to run the red light. He hit our daughter with the mirror on his SUV. He then did an illegal U-turn, came back to make sure she was unharmed, and then went along his way.

When we asked our daughter if she got any information from him, she replied that she didn’t want to bother him because he had his kids in the vehicle with him.

We have contacted the Airdrie RCMP and City bylaw officers to have this incident put on record.

We are asking everyone on the roads to please take precautions when driving. The incident that happened with our daughter could have had a very different outcome and we will be forever grateful she is unharmed.

This incident also could have changed the life of this gentleman, his family and friends in a way that nobody ever wants. The next time you get behind the wheel, please take the necessary care required to operate that vehicle.

None of us want to find out the impact a wrong decision has on our families and friends because of a bad choice made while behind the wheel.

Carla and Dan Rowan, Airdrie
