Re: “Resident’s concerns prompts City to assess off-leash parks,” Feb. 11.
Dear editor,
I am a frequent user of the off-leash area mentioned in last week’s paper. I have always picked up after my dog, as do most of the responsible dog owners and users of the park. It is a wonderful place for dogs to play and get some exercise, while letting the owners visit and also get some fresh air and exercise.
The garbage bins located in the park are used frequently by the dogs owners to the point of overflowing. These bins have remained overflowing for sometimes up to a week at a time.
The parking issue is a non issue in my opinion, as users park accordingly as any one would on a public street. This, in my opinion, does not give anyone the right to scratch messages of “Do not park here,” on vehicles parked near the off-leash area, which I have witnessed.
It seems to me this issue is coming from only a few disgruntled individuals, and as dog owners we do use and respect the park as required. Dog owners in Airdrie pay a yearly fee for licences, and perhaps that money could go towards another off-leash park in Airdrie.
