Do we care more about animals?

Dear editor, Almost every night, local TV stations deliver another report of animal abuse.

Dear editor,

Almost every night, local TV stations deliver another report of animal abuse. Puppies have been abandoned and dogs have been tortured; horrible incidents of abuse and neglect are rampant!

But the part that I find outrageous is that these stations have chosen to run animal abuse stories instead of the many child abuse stories.

When is the last time we were told how many children had been apprehended from their homes and put into foster care?

Don’t kid yourself, it happens quite regularly, and it happens because these children were used, abused, neglected or abandoned. Caught in purgatory, these children are innocent as pups, and are at the mercy of the provincial government to decide what’s best for them.

Even our dogs are treated with more dignity, as their abandonment is highly publicized, resulting in their rapid rehabilitation and subsequent adoption.

Hiding behind the Privacy Act, the government keeps the status of the children who are in the system quiet.

Rest assured, this department is run as inefficiently as our health department is.

There are currently more than 4,400 kids in the ‘waiting room’ of Child Services.

Surely, this is also newsworthy,
