Disappointed by councillors decision

RE: “Due diligence absent,” letter, Jan. 8. Dear Editor, I am writing in response the letter written by Rocky View County Couns. Jerry Gautreau, Kevin Hanson, Crystal Kissel and Samanntha Wright. I would like to thank them for having the honesty and backbone to stand up for what is right. Even if only half of the issues they raised are valid, the process pushed through by Reeve Greg Boehlke and supported by Couns. Al Schule, Mark Kamachi, Kim McKylor and Daniel Henn stinks to high heaven. Who in their right mind hires anyone for a job more complicated than a Walmart greeter on the basis of one interview? Let alone the most senior job in the County? As Gautreau, Hanson, Kissel and Wright stated, we should all support democracy. It is true that in a democracy, with a nine-person council five votes win. However, residents should be able to count on those five to do their jobs properly and in a manner that can withstand scrutiny. I can't imagine how anyone can think they did a proper job when they rushed through such an important hiring decision over a single weekend with only one interview. It is upsetting the majority of council were unwilling to step back and make sure they did due diligence. Would it have hurt to put the process on hold for a short time as the four councillors had asked? As a taxpayer, I hoped these five councillors would take their responsibilities more seriously and remember they represent the whole of Rocky View, not just themselves. Karen Roberts Division 2
