Dear editor:

It was interest that I read the former City Manager’s article.

In that article he encouraged candidates for council to have a well thought out action plan.

This is advice coming from the very same person who recommended a foolish action plan relating to Airdrie providing EMS Service to the Province.

The recommendation to council was to cancel the contract one year early, which has cost the citizens of Airdrie $4 million and has left us with the serious economic challenge we now face including a potentially large tax increase.

Granted, City council could have and should have turned down the staff recommendation in December 2009, because it was so poorly thought out.

The strategy, if you can call it that, played right into the hands of the staff at Alberta Health Services who wanted to take over control of the EMS.

Now our City is out $4 million that we could greatly use right now.

Murray Buchanan, Candidate for alderman
