Canada Day festivities in Airdrie were kicked up a few notches as the City announced last week it was adding a free concert starring Airdrie-based, award-winning performers Kyle McKearney and popular country band Nice Horse to the event schedule on July 1.

The free concert will take place at Nose Creek Regional Park, starting at 12 p.m. and concluding at 3 p.m.

“We are thrilled that we are able to feature top Canadian talent who have strong connections to Airdrie," said Mayor Peter Brown, in reference to the new free concert event added to the City's Canada Day line-up. "I’d like to thank the department of Canadian heritage, Government of Canada, for their funding support and our many community partners for their work to create what will be an unforgettable celebration."

McKearney is an Airdrie-based country and roots/folk artist who has made waves in the local and regional music scene in the past few years. Nice Horse, a B.C.-based country band, has done similar. Former Airdrie resident Katie Rox is one of the musicians who make up Nice Horse.

Residents are invited to bring their own lawn chairs and come out and enjoy the show at the Nose Creek Park amphitheatre.

The Nose Creek Park concert will be offered on top of the already great line up for the July 1 holiday, which includes a free pancake breakfast hosted by the Airdrie Kin Club at 8 a.m. in the Safeway parking lot prior to the Airdrie Canada Day Parade starting along Main Street at 10 a.m.

In addition, the Airdrie Pro Rodeo will start at 2:30 p.m. on July 1, and the 20-minute fireworks show in Chinook Winds Regional Park will start at 10:45 p.m.
