Airdrie Public Library’s Summer Reading Program (SRP) wrapped up for the year with an amazing balloon sculpture built for us by our favourite balloon artists, Chris Burylo and Stephon Diachuk.

From their unique magic to their twisted juggling humour, these non-stop entertainers were able to reach new heights with this year’s balloon build entitled El Dorado: The Amazonian Lost City of Gold. This is a fictional city that the Spanish actually searched for in the 1500s.

The build included a 14-foot temple, made out of golden balloons. The structure was highlighted by a trio of palm trees growing up to the ceiling. The whole scene was a feast for the eyes, overgrown with vines and flowers – even a hot air balloon. In behind the trees and vines, there was a secret entrance to the Lost City. I hear there may or may not have been some secrets inside….

All of Airdrie was invited to pop by and watch Diachuk and Burylo at work as they built this impressive structure. Many people pulled up a seat and watched as they blew up balloons and wove them into a magical display.

On Aug. 20, they put on a pair of shows to help us cap off a very successful Summer Reading Program. More than 350 people were entertained by this mischievous pair and their band of fellow performers.
