Irricana news: Community garden flourishes thanks to local support

This is the second summer for the Irricana Community Garden which flourished under the care of its members. As there is no source of water at the garden, the Irricana Fire Department was kind enough to spray it as needed, which was appreciated.

Pioneer Acres will host its last show of the season Sept. 11-12 at the museum, located just north of Irricana.

The show will feature stationary engines, which were used to pump water, lift grain from elevators, operate blacksmith and wood working shops, produce electricity and perform a host of other tasks.

Farm life and industry as it was in early 1900’s would not have been possible without engines to provide mechanical power.

This year’s annual Terry Fox Run will be held Sept. 19. Participants can run, walk or bike a one, five or 10 kilometre route while raising money for cancer research.

Registration will take place at the Irricana Fire Hall, located at 230-1st Ave., at 8:30 a.m.

The race will begin at 9 a.m.

The Irricana Lions Club has donated Terry Fox T-shirts for the top pledge earners.

Formerly held in June of each year, this year’s fall trade fair show will be held Sept. 26 at the recreation centre.

The annual event is geared to help promote local businesses and service groups.

Businesses with a valid Irricana business license can rent a table for $10, while local service groups can rent a table for no cost. However, space is limited for service clubs.

A Red Cross Babysitting Course will be held Oct. 2, at the Youth Centre, located at 212 5th Street. from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Youth ages 11 or older are invited to participate. Bring a bag lunch.

This year’s annual health and wellness conference will be held on Oct. 23 at the Irricana Lions Community Hall, located at 300-1st Street, from 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The event will feature national guest speakers, a fashion show, venue tables and lunch.
