The Airdrie Emergency Services Association and the Airdrie Legion want to make sure residents have a rocking Halloween this year.

The two organizations will be hosting a public, adults-only Haunting at the Legion Halloween party on Oct. 29. The party will serve as a fundraiser, in an attempt to make up the more than $5,000 that was stolen from the Legion’s safe last spring.

“I was surprised when (Airdrie Emergency Services Association) wanted to help us out,” said Dino Michaud, president of the Airdrie Legion.

“The theft put us behind in donations to the community and it would be nice to see us make some of that money back.”

Jimmy Vu, treasurer of the Airdrie Emergency Services Association, said the firefighters have been looking for a way to give back to the Legion where they hold their monthly meetings.

“We thought it would be fun to hold a Halloween party and the proceeds could go to a good cause,” he said.

“It is sad to see someone steal from the Legion because of all they do for the community and it is time the community gave back to them. The Airdrie firefighters are glad to have the opportunity to support the community they serve.”

Vu said residents are strongly encouraged to dress up for the party, as there will be prizes for the best costumes.

“Get in with the festivities of the day and help support the seniors at the Legion,” he said.

Michaud said it would be nice if the party raised $500 and anything more than that would be outstanding.

“I haven’t seen any other public Halloween events so this would be a great opportunity to come in to our great facility and enjoy yourself,” he said.

Haunting at the Legion will start at 7:30 p.m. at the Airdrie Legion. Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased by contacting Vu at [email protected] or 403-850-3761.
