Artisans Holiday Market preparations underway

As the crunchy leaves dance and twirl along the streets, planning for the fourth annual Airdrie Artisans Holiday Market is underway.

As the crunchy leaves dance and twirl along the streets, planning for the fourth annual Airdrie Artisans Holiday Market is underway.

The event brings local artisans and eager shoppers from the community and surrounding areas to the Town and Country Centre year after year. It is a fun, family-oriented day with colourful displays of handcrafted items, home-baked goodies, artwork, jewelry, pottery and other unique gift items.

“Come and support local artists and enjoy the entertainment while doing some unique shopping,” said Jane Romanishko, organizer of the market.

Local entertainment including the Bert Church High School senior jazz band and Airdrie Community Choir will energize the crowd of eager shoppers.

Shimmy Dance Production will also add to the holiday ambiance, while the mouth-watering aroma of the home-cooked butter chicken once again tempts the palette of everyone in attendance.

“It is all local and we are trying to involve more of the youth,” said Romanishko.

“This is a great opportunity for people to see the high school jazz band and enjoy the young talent. There is something for every taste.”

The organizer of the event, Airdrie School of Art, will pair up with the Airdrie 4-H Multi-Club which will help out at the event.

Every year, the vendors of the market donate prizes to a local club or not-for-profit organization.

This year, the money raised from a raffle will go to the 4-H club.

“We worked together last year and it worked out great,” said Romanishko.

“They are Santa’s little elves, who help transform the T & C into a Christmas wonderland.”

On Nov. 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., bring your family out of the cold and enjoy the embracing aromas, colourful displays and talented entertainment and pick up that adorable gift for your family or friends.

Admission to the Airdrie Artisans Holiday Market is $2 or a donation to Airdrie Food Bank. Children under 12 and seniors’ admission are free.

“Registration for local artisans is open and there are a few vendor tables still available,” said Romanishko.

“Hurry and claim a spot to showcase your wares. It is a great atmosphere that brings people together and lets them get to know each other. There is not that many places that bring people together like that anymore. It is a little bit of new without losing the tradition.”
