The Alberta Mustangs Auto Club will be holding a Show and Shine June 16. While Mustangs are the highlight of the event, other Ford vehicles are welcome to enter.

The Alberta Mustang Auto Club’s (AMAC) 35th Presidential Show and Shine is coming to Cam Clark Ford June 16. The show and shine is the year’s biggest Ford car-meet in Alberta, according to Scott Thomson, AMAC’s president, complete with food trucks, raffles and music. Thomson said he hopes to see Mustang owners and admirers come out to appreciate excellence on the road. The Mustang, after all, is more than worth celebrating, he added. “When they came out in the ‘60s, people were yearning for a car that was a little different than all the rest,” Thomson said. “They launched the pony-car phenomenon.” Mustangs were reliable, fast and affordable, according to Thomson. He noted Ford hasn’t stopped supporting the Mustang since, be it with continued production or parts. A widely-available aftermarket for Mustangs also makes them easy to customize and personalize, he added. “I’ve been a part of the Mustang Club for over a decade now, and a lot of (the members) have become my friends,” Thomson said. “We’re a bunch of guys who hang out and do stuff together. We even vacation together…. It’s more of a community.” In an effort to “change things and freshen it up,” Thomson said he guided the meet to a new format this year. In years past, the event was organized by year and modification levels – resulting in between 35 to 40 classes, and even more trophies to give away. Starting this year, the 10 best from the show are selected by votes. Another 10 special awards are given for the build of the car, like best engine or paint job. Thomson said he hopes this makes the event more engaging for everyone. The car meet will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Cam Clark Ford. There is a $15 fee to enter a car in the show – either a Mustang or any other Ford. AMAC will donate $5 from each entry to the Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter, which will accept additional donations at the event. For more information, visit abmustang.com
