An Airdrie vocal trio is in the studio working hard on its first CD.

Kindred, composed of local singers Theresa Wasden, Sheila Ross and Andrea Morton, will be releasing its debut CD Kindred Hearts in November.

“We were absolutely inspired at the Haiti concert last spring and it has blossomed,” said Wasden.

“I wrote a song And the Angels Came about the situation. It was about not reflecting what the world was, but who we wanted to be. I realized I really missed this.”

The pop/folk group has been together for four years and is very close to the final cut on the CD. The album will include 13 tracks including the ballad and first single Honesty, the Celtic-sounding Teach Me How to Love and a unique version of Mark Lowry’s Mary, Did You Know?

“We have been working since spring and we will be in the studio until October,” said Wasden.

“We wanted to have some experience singing the songs live to see where they wanted to be. I can write them but each time we sing them, they get richer and each songs gets its own feel.”

Wasden said although she wrote all of the songs except one on the CD, she never knows what life they are going to take on until she puts them to music.

“They can take on a Latin feel, or a Celtic sound,” she said.

“Getting into the studio and seeing an idea come to fruition, it’s a surprise, it’s enlightening.”

Morton, Wasden’s daughter, said she has been singing since she could talk.

“Music is a passion, an outlet for me and anyone who feels the same way will connect with this CD,” she said, describing Kindred Hearts as passion on a disc.

“Some people write, some paint, for me singing or playing an instrument is my way of expressing how I feel to the world. This is what we believe in and what we want to tell the world: expect the unexpected.”

Morton plays the clarinet, saxophone and piano.

Wasden describes Kindred as an amazing amount of love and fierce womanpower.

“We may not be able to change the world but we have so much love that there must be something we can do,” she said.

“When people listen to our CD, I hope it will help make their life a little richer or a little happier that day.”

Ross said she thinks the album will appeal to people between the ages of 20 and 40.

“There’s a lot of positive messages in the CD and I think it will be inspiring,” she said.

“It will appeal to anyone who has had life experiences.”

She added that recording is a lot more complicated then she originally thought it would be.

“I am starting to understand the intricacies, it has taken me a while but I am learning a lot,” she said.

“It takes a very long time but it is worth taking the time to do it correctly.”

A CD release concert will be held Nov. 26 at the Bert Church Theatre. Kindred will perform as well as Chris LeBlanc, the award winning Canadian vocalist.
