Airdrie Fest to promote local businesses

The City is presenting the inaugural Airdrie Fest, a community festival showcasing Airdrie community organizations and businesses, Sept. 11.

Due to the overwhelming success of the Airdrie Community Showcase, which was designed for not-for-profit groups, Airdrie Fest was recently created to build on these accomplishments and incorporate for-profit businesses.

“We wanted to expand to make this a community and family festival,” said Jill Iverson, communications coordinator for the City of Airdrie.

“There was a demand in Airdrie for more events to bring neighbours together. As the community grows, there is a need for the community to meet and celebrate everything Airdrie has to offer.”

The festival will include a variety of free entertainment, food and refreshments. Autumn Arson, Storm, Steady the Wheel and Fugitive will all take the stage. It will also include zumba, tennis, and broomball demonstrations, children’s activities and a spaghetti-eating contest.

“This is going to be one of those signature annual events like the Lilac Festival in Calgary,” said Iverson.

“You are going to want to be at the first Airdrie Fest.”

So far, 60 businesses have signed up and the registration deadline has been extended until 90 entries have been received.

“We just want everybody to come out and have a great day,” said Iverson.

Airdrie Fest will take place at Airdrie Main Street Square on Sept. 11 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
