Galaxybids.com offers a new way for consumers to buy brand name electronics at low prices.
Created by Airdrie’s Perry and Lisa Sundstrom, galaxybids.com pits customers against each other in a battle to get the best price on brand new electronics, with most items like TVs, iPods, computers and cameras selling for less than $20, and in most cases, under $2.
“Some auctions we do well on, but many we lose money on. It is a risk that we’re taking,” said Perry.
Lisa said the company is a brand new, small business, with a small client base, so people have a real chance of winning the auctions.
“Plus, we have invested our own savings, and have our reputations on the line, so it is vital for us to maintain exceptional customer service and incredible value to our customers,” she added.
Many people wonder how a business can afford to sell things for so cheap, but there is a twist. Customers first purchase their bids in bid packs starting at around 70 cents per bid.
Each time a bid is placed, it raises the auction price by one cent as well as adds 10 seconds to the clock, giving everyone an opportunity to jump in and place their bids.
It then plays out as a battle to get the best deal.
This allows the company to sell the auctioned item at a significant discount to the winning bidder. Auctions typically start in the evening at 7:30 p.m.
“We recommend that new users watch some of the auctions to get a feel for how it works and try it out,” said Lisa.
“So far, we’ve been getting tons of email from our users about how exciting our website is, and at how happy our winners have been to get such great deals. We’ve been running on extremely strong word of mouth, which is a huge compliment to us.”
