Airdrie records fourth death due to COVID-19

Airdrie's fatalities due to COVID-19 have doubled since Nov. 30, with two additional deaths reported.

According to the Alberta government's COVID-19 relaunch status map, Airdrie's active case rate has increased to 464 per population of 100,000, compared to a case rate of 437 the previous day. There have been 965 total cases of COVID-19 reported in Airdrie, with 325 active cases and 636 recoveries. The city situation remains classified as "enhanced" and a mandatory mask bylaw is still in effect.

Nine schools are listed on the province's COVID-19 school status map. Windsong Heights School, Bert Church High School, George McDougall High School and Herons Crossing School are under "watch," having reported more than five cases. Meadowbrook School, C.W. Perry School, St. Martin De Porres High School and W.H. Croxford High school are listed as "open," with two to four cases. Ecole Edwards Elementary School has been added to the status map listed as "open."

In Airdrie, as elsewhere in Alberta, students in grades 7 to 12 are currently learning at home, while younger grades can continue to attend their school buildings.

Rocky View County has reported eight additional confirmed cases of the virus, bringing the total to 125. Rocky View County's case rate is currently 288 cases per 100,000 population. The County's situation remains classified as enhanced.

Elsewhere, Chestermere has reported 74 active cases, up 13 from Nov. 30. Cochrane has reported 47, up seven from the previous day.

In Chestermere, two schools are listed on the province's school status map – Chestermere Lake Middle School is under watch and Chestermere High School is open. Cochrane High School is listed as open.
