BONNYVILLE – The main floor of the Bonnyville Health Centre was flooded on Tuesday afternoon following a water-line break at the facility.

Water was quickly shut off and the fire department was called in to assist, stated information provided by Covenant Health.

There was no impact on patients in the hospital or patient care during the event. Water has since been restored to the facility.

“Patient safety and care is always our main concern during an event like this,” said Shelly Franklin, site administrator for the Bonnyville Health Centre

“Thanks to the quick action of our teams, there was no disruption of care and impact to the centre was minimal.”

The Emergency Department remains open, with all care and services currently proceeding as normal. Overall damage is still being assessed, stated Covenant Health.

“We would also like to thank the Bonnyville Regional Fire Department for their response and assistance at the site,” continued Franklin.

The main floor elevator and public washroom will be out-of-service until repairs can be completed. Signs will be posted for visitors and patients redirecting them to alternate washrooms and elevator access.

There are no concerns for staff or public safety at this time.
