CARSTAIRS - A Calgary man is facing a host of charges, including attempted murder, after a vehicle was shot at with an occupant inside outside the Silver Willow Farm Sporting Club near Carstairs on Friday, police say.

Officers were called to the site at about 5:10 a.m. for a report of break and enter in progress.

A short time earlier, a male representative of the club was notified by the on-site security system that two suspects were in the business, said RCMP Cpl. Gina Slaney.

“The complainant drove to the business and observed two suspects enter a Volkswagen hatchback car and attempt to flee the area,” said Slaney. “However the VW became stuck and the male suspect exited the vehicle with a long-barrelled firearm, pointed it at the complainant and proceeded to run towards the complainant’s vehicle.

“The male suspect then shot at the complainant, who was still in his vehicle, striking the vehicle. The complainant was not injured.”

RCMP officers from Didsbury, Olds and Airdrie detachments, along with the RCMP Emergency Response Team and police dog services attended the scene and ordered residents in the area to shelter in place.

Shortly after 9:30 a.m. police issued a release saying a male and female were in custody and the shelter in place was lifted.

Asked by the Albertan, Cpl. Slaney could not say whether the firearm used in the shooting was taken from the club facility.
