St. Albert RCMP has charged a man who allegedly recorded 22 victims changing out of their clothes at a St. Albert tanning salon.

Police have charged Matthew David Belford, 37, with 22 counts of voyeurism and with possession of child pornography.

The case opened in 2022, when a victim allegedly noticed a cell phone peeking above a ¾ length wall while she was changing at the tanning salon.

With assistance from the tanning salon, the Belford was identified and arrested, and his cell phone was seized, according to an RCMP press release. The tanning salon also helped police identify the other victims.

While investigating Belford, RCMP found a “very large amount of child pornography,” in Belford’s possession, the press release says.

Belford has been released from custody. He will next appear at the St. Albert Court of Justice on March 4.

RCMP would not share the name of the tanning salon. However, the information will be available, at a later date.
