RCMP continue investigation of human remains found in truck in Kananaskis

"The vehicle which contained the deceased is the same truck in the included picture," said RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Gina Slaney, in a media release.

KANANASKIS COUNTRY – Police are seeking further assistance from the public in an investigation into human remains found in a vehicle at a trailhead in Bow Valley Provincial Park last week.

The vehicle, a 1998 white Dodge Ram with Alberta licence plate CNF1057, was stolen from Dalhousie, a northwest Calgary neighbourhood on the morning of Oct. 24, 2023, according to RCMP.

"The vehicle which contained the deceased is the same truck in the included picture," said RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Gina Slaney, in a media release.

"If anyone has any information regarding this vehicle, or may have seen it between Oct. 24, 2023, and Nov. 3, 2023, please call Cochrane RCMP at 403-851-8000, or your local police."

An autopsy was conducted Monday (Nov. 6), but results will not be released until next of kin has been notified, according to RCMP.

On Nov. 3, Cochrane police officers discovered the human remains while responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle at the Widowmaker trailhead in Bow Valley Provincial Park in Kananaskis Country.

Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit has since taken over the investigation.

In a prior media release, RCMP requested anyone with dash cam video recorded between Oct. 29 and Nov. 3, in the area of Highway 1 and Highway 40, to contact police. Specifically, RCMP was interested in video that may capture smoke around the trailhead.

Anyone with information regarding the stolen vehicle is asked to contact police. To make an anonymous tip, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
