BONNYVILLE, Alta - Bonnyville RCMP are considering whether or not charges should be laid against a driver whose broken boat trailer is suspected of sparking several small grass fires along Highway 660.

Around 2 p.m. on July 10, Bonnyville RCMP members were dispatched to various locations along Highway 660 for several small grass fires that were alleged to have been set by an eastbound truck that was hauling a boat.

The trailer had lost a wheel and was sparking heavily, according to a Bonnyville RCMP press release.

“The dispatched member received information from other motorists, as well as a video recorded by a passenger in a vehicle that was following the sparking trailer,” states RCMP.

The driver of the trailer was not located at that time but has since been identified by police.

“It’s believed the driver had no idea he was sparking fires along the shoulder of the highway,” the statement continues.

“The matter is still under investigation at this time and a determination on charges has yet to be made.”
