A mother-daughter duo was among three people charged following the theft of an RCMP bait truck in Bonnyville on Feb. 16.

This was second time in six weeks the bait truck was stolen in Bonnyville.

At 2 p.m. on Friday, Bonnyville RCMP were alerted that the RCMP bait truck had just been stolen in Bonnyville.

"While one member tracked the truck on GPS, the other members followed in behind and noted three occupants inside," according to information from RCMP. "The truck left town eastbound on Hwy. 659, and several miles down the road the engine was deactivated remotely, forcing the driver to pull over."

The three occupants exited the truck and tried to flee from police. A man and woman, who were passengers, were apprehended only steps away from the vehicle. The female driver reportedly ran to a treed area.

"Cold Lake Police Dog Services arrived on scene within seconds and tracked the female to the yard of a nearby residence where she was taken into custody without further incident," according to police. No injuries were sustained by suspects or police.

"Vehicle thefts are a concern for members of the community and police alike," says Bonnyville RCMP Staff Sgt. Sarah Parke. "In addition to promoting vehicle theft prevention tips, the RCMP employ other tactics such as the deployment of an RCMP bait vehicle throughout various communities across Alberta."

Jennifer Fiddler, 44, of Cold Lake is charged with possession of a stolen truck over $5,000, resisting arrest, driving while prohibited and four counts of failing to comply with a release order.
