RCMP

Cochrane RCMP is applauding local residents who provided the detachment with information that aided police in quickly locating three suspects Oct. 3.

After being alerted to two suspicious vehicles travelling westbound on Highway 1A at around 5:30 p.m., Cochrane police located one of the vehicles as it stopped at the bottom of Cochrane Hill. All four occupants then exited the vehicle and fled on foot, according to RCMP.

"Several Cochrane residents flagged down police or called in to provide information on the suspects' locations and direction of travel as they ran through backyards and jumped fences," an Oct. 4 RCMP release stated. "As a result, within minutes three of the suspects were found and safely taken into custody."

The suspects, who were all youth out of Calgary, have been charged with a number of offences including failing to stop for police, possession of property obtained by a crime, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, breach of probation and breach of recognizance, according to RCMP.

"Cochrane RCMP would like to thank the local residents for their alertness and information that aided police in quickly locating the suspects," the release stated.
