Two Calgarians were arrested in Rocky View County on Sept. 12, after breaking into a rural resident's quonset hut.

According to Strathmore RCMP, the incident occurred around 2:45 p.m., after a rural resident observed two individuals on his trail cameras breaking into his quonset.

"Strathmore members immediately responded to find both males still on site removing items from the Quonset on the property," stated a press release from the detachment. "Both were arrested on scene. The vehicle, a Black 2004 Honda Accord... was determined to be stolen. The property found inside was also stolen from the Quonset."

After being arrested, Sukhchain Singh, a 43-year-old male, and Sarabjit Singh a 41-year-old male, were brought to the Strathmore detachment, where they were charged in relation to this matter and held for a bail hearing.

The Calgarians' charges included possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000; two counts of theft under $5,000; trespassing; breaking and entering; and committing an indictable offence.

Sukhchain Singh faces additional charges of failing to comply with a condition of a probation order (three counts), and operating a vehicle while unauthorized. He was remanded into custody, while Sarabjit was released on conditions to appear in court at a later date.

Both men are designated as prolific offenders by Calgary Police Service as a result of their lengthy criminal history, stated the release.

“The quick reporting of this incident enabled by low cost technology was instrumental in catching these suspects in the act," said Strathmore RCMP's detachment commander, Staff Sgt. Mark Wielgosz. "Assistance from the public with timely reporting of criminal or suspicious activity goes a long way in helping the police to keep our communities safe. I would like to encourage our residents to continue with their vigilance in observing, recording, and reporting crime.”
