An Intermunicipal Development Plan (IDP) between Rocky View County (RVC) and neighbouring Kneehill County received unanimous second reading by council during a regular meeting Jan. 14.

According to Senior Planner Stefan Kunz, the purpose of an IDP is to “address planning and development of lands adjacent to a municipal boundary,” and aims to minimize land use and development conflicts, provide opportunities for collaboration and communication, and outline processes for resolution of issues that may arise within the areas adjacent to the boundary.

Kunz noted all municipalities sharing a common border are required to create and IDP under the Municipal Government Act. For RVC, an IDP is necessary for all neighbours that are not part of the Calgary Metropolitan Region Board (CMRB).

The document will now go before CMRB for approval before returning to council for final reading.

An IDP between RVC and Mountain View County was adopted Dec. 10, 2019.

Northglen Estates

Council unanimously approved a redesignation for 18.99 acres associated with Northglen Estates.

The subject land is located southeast of Chestermere, south of Township Road 240 and on the east side of Range Road 275A, planner Johnson Kwan said. The redesignation will facilitate the future subdivision of the land into residential lots.

“Overall, the proposal is consistent with the adopted [Northglen Estates] Conceptual Scheme,” Kwan said.
