At a regular meeting Feb. 11, Rocky View County (RVC) council unanimously approved a redesignation to support a future business expansion on land west of Calgary, north of Township Road 232 and west of Range Road 283.

According to planner Xin Deng, several industrial parcels are located north and south of the site.

To facilitate future business expansion, she said, the owner proposed to redesignate the land from Agricultural Holdings to Business-Industrial Campus. The property has held a development permit for a home-based business since 2012, according to Deng, allowing for the operation of a stucco construction company. The permit was renewed annually until it lapsed in 2019.

“Because there’s some limitations…which only allowed two non-resident employees and a certain area for outside storage, when that permit became expired in May of last year, the applicant felt it didn’t meet their needs any more,” she said.

The new designation will allow the business to increase to six employees, expand its shop and add an advertising sign.

“This only makes sense, as this is all commercial and industrial area,” said Deputy Reeve Al Schule, the area councillor, who moved to approve the application.
