Rocky View County (RVC) council began implementing its new recreation model with the unanimous adoption of a bylaw and Terms of Reference (TOR) at a regular meeting Sept. 24.

According to Theresa Cochran, manager of Recreation, Parks and Community Support, the bylaw establishes the Recreation Governance Committee and officially rescinds each of the ten recreation boards.

“[The TOR] describes membership, functions, responsibilities and procedures for this committee,” she said.

The decision stems from council’s July 23 decision to replace the district boards with the new committee, comprised solely of council members.

Cochran added all the recreation boards had been notified of the changes and will be invited to a recognition event Nov. 7 to recognize the board members’ contributions.
