Rocky View County (RVC) council granted first reading to a number of bylaws during the Oct. 22 regular meeting, including a new Public Notification Bylaw that would change how the County advertises public hearings, proposed bylaws and other matters.
According to Grant Kaiser, Executive Director of Community and Business Connections, the new bylaw, if adopted, would make RVC’s website its primary mode of communication.
The MGA used to require municipalities advertise in at least one newspaper, but changes to legislation now allow other methods to be used, Kaiser said.
“The main notification channel would become the website, however, we have no plans to abandon the newspaper at all,” he said. “This simply changes what kinds of information we might put in the paper.”
A public hearing on the bylaw is scheduled for council’s Nov. 26 meeting. Under RVC’s new Procedure Bylaw, which came into effect in September, council must grant first reading before a public hearing is scheduled and a report is prepared by administration.
Council also granted first reading for various redesignation applications and for an Intermunicipal Development Plan bylaw between RVC and Kneehill County.
