A development permit for CL Western Town, an existing movie set located on 160 acres north of Bragg Creek, has been renewed for the next decade after a decision by Rocky View County (RVC) council at a regular meeting Sept. 24.

According to planner Jessica Anderson, the existing development permit was issued in August 2018 and was valid for one year. The initial approval was for a temporary permit – pending changes to the Land Use Bylaw relating to filming uses – but the renewal requested a permanent permit.

Area Coun. Mark Kamachi moved to amend the permit, making it valid for 10 years. His motion was supported unanimously, as was a motion to approve the amended permit.

The lands contain an existing movie set, Anderson said, including a small western town, a prop rail station, a prop warehouse, parking areas and a staging area.

“There are no changes to the development permit…and no compliance issues have been identified by administration,” she said.
