Quiet May long weekend for Cochrane RCMP

It was a relatively hassle-free Victoria Day weekend for Cochrane RCMP.

According to a May 22 press release from the detachment, there was was no increase in service calls that detachment's general duty members had to respond to.

Meanwhile, the Cochrane RCMP Traffic Unit was out in full force, working with the Alberta Sheriffs to keep the highways safe.

Cochrane RCMP stated five drivers were removed from the road and charged with impaired driving-related offences, while four drivers received immediate roadside suspensions for alcohol-related offences. In terms of other driving infractions, 522 traffic enforcement tickets were written up throughout the three days.

“Alberta weather can be very unpredictable for the Victoria Day long weekend, but it was business as usual at the Cochrane detachment,” said Cst. Kary Moore “We are prepared for everything from sunshine to snow and everything in between. We had the quads and the boat out ready to roll, as well as the trucks for the tougher to get to areas. People were out camping and enjoying themselves in the rain and, for the most part, did so responsibly.”

Cochrane RCMP thanked the public for enjoying the weekend responsibly, and for their patience as they made their way through numerous checkstops in the area.

"The ultimate goal for this weekend, and always, is for everyone to enjoy themselves in Alberta's back country and to make it home safe," the release stated.
