Fugitive arrested for attempted murder

The suspect in an Aug. 4 attempted murder is now in custody.

Twenty-one-year-old Malik Holloway, of Morley, had a warrant out for his arrest after assaulting a 33-year-old male with a weapon.

Two days after his Aug. 16 arrest, another individual who was involved in the incident – 23-year-old Stephawn Hunter – was arrested, and “has charges pending,” according to a statement from Cochrane RCMP.

“Public safety is paramount, and with these two individuals being out without facing their charges, it definitely made for the community, as a whole, to be uneasy,” said Cochrane RCMP Cst. Jennifer Brewer.

“It’s a good arrest on the detachment’s part, because now we can ensure these two are going to answer for what they did to this individual. They’ll go to court and speak to assaulting this person so badly that it turned into an attempted murder [charge].”

The pair faced their first court appearances Aug. 20. The outcome of that appearance was not known by press time.

“I don’t know what the court will decide at their next appearance, but at this point, they’re still in custody,” Brewer said.

According to Brewer, the victim’s condition has improved and he has been released from hospital.

“He’s going to make a full recovery,” she said.
