The Crossfield Fire Department responded to a fire at Vertex Resource Group Ltd. in the early morning hours of Dec. 20.

According to a statement released from Crossfield Fire Chief Ben Niven, local fire crews received a call for a structure fire at 602 McCool Street just after midnight. Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy black smoke coming from all the bay doors in the Vertex building.

Fire support personnel from Airdrie, Carstairs, and Rocky View County were all called in to assist local firefighters with the blaze, and the fire was successfully contained to one bay.

Fire crews continued to keep watch over the building for most of the day on Dec. 20 before eventually releasing the scene back to the owners.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
