Fire ban in effect for Rocky View County

Due to dry and windy conditions, Rocky View County (RVC) instituted a fire ban April 27, according to an update on the County's website.

Under the ban, permit burning is not allowed, and all outstanding burning and fireworks permits are suspended until further notice.

The ban applies to incinerators for farm and acreage use, burning barrels, solid fuel barbecues that use charcoal briquettes, recreational camp fires, chimeneas and fires contained within approved facilities and appliances in designated camping or recreational areas.

Exceptions to the ban include internal household fireplaces, propane or natural gas barbecues, propane or natural gas fire pits and camp stoves that are properly attended. Oil well flaring is also permitted, albeit appropriate registration is required, which can be accessed by calling 403-264-1022.

The penalty for disobeying the fire ban in RVC is a $1,000 fine, according to the County's release.

“Should the fire get out of control and emergency fire response is required, the person responsible for the fire can be charged the full firefighting costs,“ the release stated.

RVC residents can find out when the fire ban has been lifted through the Alberta Fire Bans website, the County’s Fire Ban Information Line at 403-520-6310, the Safe & Sound program, or the County's website.
