Fatal motor vehicle collision under investigation in Chestermere

An 81-year-old woman has died following a two-vehicle collision in Chestermere earlier today, according to a press release from the Chestermere RCMP.

An 81-year-old woman has died following a two-vehicle collision in Chestermere earlier today, according to a press release from the Chestermere RCMP.

"At approximately 1 p.m. today, Chestermere RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Rainbow Road and Chestermere Boulevard," stated the release. "The collision involved a car and a pick-up truck.

The female passenger of the car from Calgary was pronounced deceased at the scene. According to the the news release, the female driver and second female passenger were transported by EMS to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The lone male driver of the pick-up truck was treated and released at scene by EMS.

The circumstances leading up to the collision are currently under investigation, and an RCMP Collision Analyst has been called in for assistance.

"Currently, emergency crews remain on scene and traffic flow in the area is slow," stated the release, adding southbound Rainbow Road is currently not accessible from west of Chestermere Boulevard.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area and to take alternate routes.

Chestermere RCMP would like to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the collision.

"In addition, anyone who witnessed the incident and would like supports can be put in touch with Chestermere Victim Services through the Chestermere RCMP," the release stated.
