Fatal motor vehicle collision reported in Chestermere

The incident took place at 3 a.m., when Chestermere RCMP officers were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision between a semi-truck hauling herbicide that collided with two other semi-trucks parked on the shoulder of the road.

A fatal motor vehicle collision was reported in Chestermere early this morning. 

The incident took place at 3 a.m., when Chestermere RCMP officers were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision between a semi-truck hauling herbicide that collided with two other semi-trucks parked on the shoulder of the road.

Both lanes of Highway 1, westbound at Paradise Road (Range Road 282) were affected by this collision. 

"At this time RCMP, EMS and Fire are on scene," stated a Chestermere RCMP press release. "Volker Stevin is present redirecting traffic for the next several hours. Westbound traffic will be routed to the Chestermere exit for travel on Highway 1A and 17 Avenue SE through Chestermere."

Tragically, one fatality was reported as a result of this collision.

The RCMP collision reconstructionist and Criminal Collision Investigation Team (CCIT) are assisting Chestermere and Strathmore RCMP detachments with the ongoing investigation.  

"The area will not be passable for some time," the release stated. "Motorists are asked to avoid the area. An update will be provided when further information becomes available."
