Several councillors were appointed to various boards and committees during the July 9 regular Rocky View County council meeting.

The appointments stemmed from the June 11 sanctioning of Couns. Crystal Kissel, Kevin Hanson and Samanntha Wright, which included their removal from all boards and committees until council’s October 2020 organizational meeting. As a result, several positions became vacant.

Following the appointments, Coun. Jerry Gautreau will now serve as vice-chair of the Governance and Priorities Committee, an alternate on the Subdivision and Development Appeal Board and a member of the Cochrane Intermunicipal Committee. Reeve Greg Boehlke will join him on that committee, and will also sit on the M.D. of Bighorn Intermunicipal Development Plan Committee.

Coun. Kim McKylor shouldered the most appointments, joining the Spray Lake Sawmill Recreation Parks Society, the Ranch Lands Recreation District and the Cochrane Ag Lands Advisory Committee. She was also appointed as an alternate for the Rocky View West Recreation District.

Coun. Daniel Henn will join McKylor on the Cochrane Ag Lands Advisory Committee and will also serve on the Bearspaw Glendale Recreation District. Coun. Mark Kamachi, meanwhile, was appointed to the Rocky View West Recreation District.

Hanson, Wright and Kissel opposed each appointment, all of which were carried 6-3.

Glendale Ranch

Council adopted a conceptual scheme and an associated land redesignation that will guide Glendale Ranch, described by planner Paul Simon as a new country residential development located east of Cochrane in the Bearspaw Area Structure Plan (ASP) comprising seven 10-acre lots.

Simon said the applications met the policies of the ASP and the County Plan, and council granted three unanimous readings to both.
