An application to redesignate 70.71 acres east of Cochrane – east of Range Road 40 and on the north side of Highway 567 – received unanimous second and third reading by Rocky View County (RVC) council Jan. 14.

According to planner Johnson Kwan, the application met the criteria for a new or distinct agricultural operation under the County Plan.

“The applicant indicated that the proposed Agricultural Holdings will be used for small-scale livestock and hobby farming,” he said.

Applicant Kristi Beunder, on behalf of owner Corey Stoneman, confirmed a residence is also intended on a section of the land that was redesignated as Farm Two District.

Despite some opposition from neighbour Keith Koebisch – who said he was mainly concerned about traffic impacts on wildlife and the fact that the use on the land has “been a moving target as to what’s really going to be happening there,” Area Coun. Crystal Kissel moved to approve the application.

“I have no way to disbelieve that [the owner] is not going to build a home there,” she said.
