Chestermere is getting ready to rally after applying to compete in Kraft Hockeyville 2020 – a nation-wide contest where the winning municipality receives $250,000 towards arena upgrades and the opportunity to host an NHL game.

According to a release from the City, the Chestermere Regional Community Association (CRCA), with the support of the City of Chestermere, applied to the contest and the organizations is asking the community to show support for the bid by participating in a Kraft Hockeyville Community Rally on Jan. 31 at 6:30 p.m., just prior to the Chestermere Laker’s Midget hockey game at the Chestermere Rec Centre.

"We invite everyone to show the country how we embody the spirit of hockey by wearing your jerseys, making signs and showing up to lend your support before the puck drop," read the release.

Filming of a promotional video to be submitted to Kraft Hockeyville as part of the campaign will take place at the rally, according to the City.

"Every contestant receives points based upon their community participation," the release read. "The more we rally, the more points we accumulate, the greater the likelihood of our success."

Community participation extends beyond the Jan. 31 rally, and the CRCA is asking residents to visit krafthockeyville.ca to create an account; post a photo, video or comment to the CRCA community page; react to other submissions on the community page by selecting a "reaction" emoji and tweeting you support by using the hashtags #KraftHockeyville #NHL #Contest #IAmChestermereHockey. Support tasks must be completed before Feb. 9, according to the release.

"The CRCA believes the City of Chestermere is a worthy recipient; we live and breathe hockey and we’re ready to do what it takes to be crowned Kraft Hockeyville," the release stated. "We are Chestermere hockey."
