An adult male was arrested at a residence in Chestermere Jan. 12 on multiple charges, including assault causing bodily harm and two counts of forcible confinement, among other charges.

An adult male was arrested at a residence in Chestermere Jan. 12 on multiple charges, including assault causing bodily harm and two counts of forcible confinement, among other charges.

A press release from the Chestermere RCMP stated the residence – located in the 200 block of Invermere Drive – was contained by Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Police Dog Services members around 1:30 p.m. There, officers executed arrest warrants for an adult male.

According to the release, when officers arrived at the residence, the wanted male – a 50-year-old Chestermere resident – withdrew into the residence and secured himself inside.

"Verbal attempts to have the male surrender himself went unanswered," the release stated.

While the male was contained inside the residence, RCMP's press release stated additional precautions were taken to ensure the safety of area residents and two nearby schools by restricting access to the area and having students remain indoors.

"Alternate arrangements for their dismissal were made in coordination with the respective school boards," the release stated.

A judicial authorization to enter the residence was obtained and at approximately 3 p.m., according to the release, ERT members safely took the male into custody. They located the male hiding in the residence attic, where he tried to camouflage himself with insulation. He surrendered himself when officers prepared to enter the attic area.

The male was wanted on outstanding warrants from both Chestermere and Cochrane. The warrant and charges from Cochrane are related to an incident that occurred in June, 2020 where he was charged with harassing communication. A Judicial hearing was held and the male did not speak to bail.

He is scheduled to appear in Drumheller Provincial Court on Jan. 15.
