Airdrie and Alberta RCMP officers are investigating after human remains were discovered in a utility trailer in Rocky View County on Sept. 30.
The Airdrie detachment stated in a press release on Oct. 1 that a motorist had called in an abandoned utility trailer on Township Road 252 and Range Road 283, east of Calgary city limits between Conrich and Delacour.
“When a tow truck arrived to tow the trailer, further examination led to the discovery of human remains inside,” the release stated. “Police were subsequently notified.”
Airdrie RCMP officers attended to the scene and confirmed that human remains were located in the trailer, according to the release.
“In regards to whether the original motorist who called in the abandoned trailer has been cooperative with police, yes, they have been,” said Cpl. Tammy Keibel with Alberta RCMP.
“In addition, several witnesses have come forward to help us determine when the trailer was left in the location it was found. We believe from this information we've received from the public that the trailer was abandoned sometime overnight on Sept. 26, into the morning of Sept. 27.”
The trailer is described as a home-made utility trailer with camouflage paint.
The release states the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes division has taken over the investigation, with the assistance of RCMP Forensic Identification Services and Airdrie RCMP's General Investigation Section.
“The investigation has determined the human remains are believed to be those of a female and an autopsy is to be completed this week by the Calgary Office of the Chief Medical Examiner,” the release stated.
Alberta RCMP Major Crimes are asking for anyone who may have information about the trailer, or has seen the trailer in Calgary or surrounding area, to contact Airdrie RCMP at 403-945-7267. Police are also requesting dash cam footage in the area of Township 252 and Range Road 283 between Sept. 24 and 27.
