Ace Convenience recently opened in Crossfield, offering locals a 24-hour option to purchase their everyday goods.

A new convenience store allowing customers to shop 24 hours a day, seven days a week is now open for business in Crossfield.

The owners of the new business, Ace Convenience, recently took to Facebook to let residents know their doors are now open.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported us and also for welcoming us to the community,” the post stated.  “It has been a pleasure meeting and interacting with you all, I hope as time [passes] I get to know more of Crossfield’s amazing citizens.”

Officially opening the storefront's doors back in September, manager of the family-run store Ali Al said he is excited to be a part of the local business community and offer a storefront that serves residents around the clock.

“Our idea was to be the first and make it work out,” Al said.

The store offers everything from dairy and cheese, to chocolate bars and candy, along with items like dog food, cleaning, and office supplies. Al said as the business moves forward, they plan to add more to their selections to ensure there is something for everyone.

According to Al, the idea of a 24-7 convenience store has been tried before in the community, but hasn’t worked out. While it may be a risky endeavour, he said so far, the community has been responding really well to the new storefront.

“There are other convenience stores in town, but we are the only locally-owned one,” he claimed. “People tend to come for us for that reason.”

While many may quiver at the idea of opening a business during the COVID-19 pandemic, Al said it has been a good experience so far. Although public health restrictions come and go, he added they are doing whatever is needed to keep staff and patrons safe.

“We are trying to do our best to ensure everyone knows we want to take care of the community and operate safely,” Al said.

Al’s first order of business, once getting things going, was hiring and networking locally.

“We want to provide for the community so they know they can rely on us,” he said. “It makes for good relationships for all of us.”

This is the first time the family-run Ace Convenience operation has taken the leap of starting their own local business. Al said there was a lot of trial and error in the process, but he and his family have been doing well, considering the circumstances.

“We love everyone around here,” he said. “It’s been so nice having everybody come by, and we’d love to meet more people. Don’t be shy to come by. There will be more to come, we are changing every day.”

Lani McLeod, the executive director of the Crossfield Chamber of Commerce, said Ace Convenience is currently in the process of becoming a member of the local chamber. She added chamber executives will be planning an official ribbon-cutting for the new business in the near future to officially welcome it to the community.

MacLeod said the arrival of a 24-7 storefront is a sign of Crossfield's continued growth, and said she hopes the store will keep residents in town when they need to do any after-hours shopping.

“I believe having Ace Convenience fills a gap for 24-7 service we don't currently have in Crossfield,” she said. “That keeps more money in our local economy because we won't have people running out of town after hours for those last-minute items they may have forgotten [to purchase].

“I think with all the new members in our community, there's more of a need for some of those extra services we maybe didn't require a few years ago. I know with so many young families, it's nice to be able to pop out at 10 p.m. to grab some Tylenol or something like that. Having a convenience store in town will be an asset.”

The new store is located at 1312 Railway street and is open 24 hours daily.
