Three suspects have been arrested and charged in relation to the Sept. 16 shooting at CrossIron Mills mall in Balzac, according to a Nov. 12 release from the Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit (SAD CRU).

Calgarians Dakota Brandon Bolton, 25; Carl James Schuyler, 35; and Jari Erkki Manner, 37, were taken into custody Nov. 10 and charged with attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder, among other charges.

At around 7 p.m. Sept. 16 Airdrie RCMP and Calgary Police Service (CPS) responded to a report of an active shooter at the mall that left one man with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Upon arrival at the facility, it was determined the shooting occurred in the parking lot near the food court. The suspects fled the scene.

Following the shooting, SAD CRU was engaged to take over the investigation.

According to SAD CRU, Judicial Interim Release hearings have been held and all three accused remain in custody.

While the RCMP said it could not provide information about the nature of the motive behind the shooting, the release stated, the investigation indicates this was a targeted incident.

“The safety of the mall patrons was ensured by the swift actions of the CrossIron Mills mall security personnel, mall employees and the immediate response of our partner, Calgary Police Service,” said Const. Burton of the SAD CRU. “We had assistance in this investigation from Airdrie RCMP members, and as a whole, the collaboration with all different agencies, units and businesses ensured this successful outcome.”

Groper arrested

After months of intensive investigation, Airdrie RCMP have charged a male with numerous criminal code offences in relation to the incidents where a man on a bicycle was assaulting females, according to a Nov. 7 release from the detachment.

Airdrie resident Adam James Ferrier, 18, has been charged with 18 offences including three cases of sexual assault, four charges of voyeurism, indecent act, seven charges of failure to comply with conditions and committing an offence while masked.

He is alleged to have ridden up behind women on his bicycle and, as he drove past them, hit them on their buttocks. After Ferrier did this, RCMP said, he rode away from the scene.

After an Oct. 16 press release was made public, other victims came forward to report this happened to them, the Nov. 7 release stated. At this point, according to RCMP, Ferrier then changed his behaviour and committed different sexual-related offences while on foot.

This investigation was coordinated by Airdrie General Investigation Section, who incorporated assistance from several units including, but not limited to, Airdrie General Duty members, Airdrie Crime Reduction Unit, Criminal Analysts and Provincial Sheriffs.

“Members of the public were also very instrumental in solving these crimes, as they provided important information during extensive neighbourhood inquiries,” the release stated.

Ferrier has been remanded into custody and will be appear in Airdrie Provincial Court Nov. 21 at 9:30 a.m.

Indecent act

RCMP is investigating after a complaint of indecent exposure in East Lake Park.

A woman told police she was walking in the park around 8:10 p.m. Nov. 12, when she noticed a man following her.

“The male got in front of her and, when she got closer, she noticed he had his privates in his hands,” a Nov. 12 release stated. “When he noticed another person approaching he fled on foot between the tennis courts and hockey rink.”

The suspect is described as a tall, slim, Caucasian with dark hair. He is believed to be between 25 to 35 years old and was wearing a dark hoodie and dark pants.
