Taking ownership

The rural mail delivery debacle now facing some rural Airdrie residents would leave even the most patient among us stomping their feet.

The rural mail delivery debacle now facing some rural Airdrie residents would leave even the most patient among us stomping their feet. Yes, Canada Post did send out a notice informing residents the change would be coming, but – judging by the number of phone calls we received from upset residents – that communication was clearly ineffective. You would think an organization would notice if its engagement was not garnering a hearty response and would then adapt its communication to achieve greater compliance. At the same time, it was up to residents to respond when they were asked to do so. By choosing not to prioritize that Canada Post request, residents left themselves open to their current frustrations. While we do agree it appears as though the changeover was mishandled, to a degree, we also must put some of the responsibility on impacted residents. All too often in today’s world, people are solely focused on ease to themselves and not the responsibilities of being a member of greater society. We expect things to run smoothly and be done for us, without any thought to where we fit in the process. Canada Post is not innocent in this instance, but residents who chose not to act also need to take some ownership.
