Helping each other

Judging from last week’s survey results – 80 per cent of respondents said 2018 was a bad year – we could all use a little hope and positivity in our lives, this year.

Judging from last week’s survey results – 80 per cent of respondents said 2018 was a bad year – we could all use a little hope and positivity in our lives, this year. The sparkle-filled performance by the Cheesecake Burlesque Revue will give the audience a fun opportunity to celebrate the female form in an upbeat, body-positive way. It’s the perfect way to kick off 2019. Our public safety workers are wrapping up three months of dedicated community service with the Sirens Lip Sync competition. Since November, our RCMP, Municipal Enforcement, EMS members and firefighters have been hosting food drives, fundraisers and events to support local charities. It’s encouraging to see that kind of giving back from people who already give so much. And there’s plenty of opportunities for the rest of us to make a difference, too. It should go without saying – though we fear it is becoming less common – but simply being kind to one another is a great place to start. Hold a door open for someone, let a car into your lane that is clearly trying to get over, be polite, smile at someone. These things don’t cost you anything, but they could make a stranger’s day. If you can, donate your time or money, champion a cause, organize a fundraiser. Or, consider stopping by the blood donor clinic Jan. 11, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Town and Country Centre. Do something for someone else. Together, we can make 2019 a better year for everyone.
