Helping each other

Judging from last week’s survey results – 100 per cent of respondents said 2018 was a bad year – we could all use a little hope and positivity in our lives this year.

Judging from last week’s survey results – 100 per cent of respondents said 2018 was a bad year – we could all use a little hope and positivity in our lives this year. It is with this in mind that we celebrate the work of those making a difference in our world such as Dr. Fozia Alvi and Brenda and Henry Fehr. Dr. Aivi is an amazing woman doing incredible things for those left displaced in the unrest happening in Myanmar. The stories she’s heard and the suffering she’s witnessed are horrific, but she is using that to demand action. We cannot image the personal toll left on Dr. Aivi from the firsthand view of that immense suffering, and we applaud her efforts to bring attention to and help those in need. The Fehrs are also doing their part to make the world a brighter place by saving horses from the slaughterhouse. They are anticipating their busiest year yet, but are facing it with enough self awareness to not take on more than they can handle on their own. Most of us likely don’t have the resources to help on such a large scale, but there are little ways we can make a difference. It should go without saying, though we fear it is becoming less common, but simply being kind to one another is a great place to start. Hold a door open for someone, let a car into your lane that is clearly trying to get over, be polite, smile at someone. These things don’t cost you anything but they could make a stranger’s day. If you can, donate your time or money, champion a cause, organize a fundraiser. Do something for someone else. Together, we can make 2019 a better year for everyone.
