Despicable

The seemingly-targeted vandalism to an Edgewater home over the Thanksgiving weekend is nothing short of despicable. The home, owned by a young family who moved in just a year ago, was covered in at least five or six cans of spray paint. The vandal(s), though, didn’t stop there – they also covered the family’s vehicles in the black paint and slashed all the tires. An act such as this takes time and a substantial amount of planning, as the perpetrator(s) would have first decided to do this, go to a store and collect the paint – likely shelling out somewhere in the vicinity of $50 for several cans of paint. They then went to the house and spent a good chunk of time covering as many surfaces as they could in black paint. We don’t care how much you dislike a person, this kind of damage is outrageous. Who does that kind of thing? Then, for people to hide behind their computer screens and accuse the family of insurance fraud and infidelity, just left a bitter taste in our mouths. The silver lining of all this awfulness is the offers from other community members, strangers to this family, to come help clean up the mess and even to help pay the insurance deductible. That is the Airdrie we know and love. Airdrie is growing and crime does happen, but it is the community’s response to it that makes Airdrie such a great place to live. We come together to say, “that’s not OK,” and “what can I do to help?” – that is quintessential Airdrie, and we hope that positivity shines through any black paint.
