When my family eventually decided to move to Canada, I liked to believe my grandparents were proud that we chose Canada.

My family has always proudly served in the military and/ or police generation after generation going back as far as our family tree will allow. There is always at least one member of my family which has answered the call in one way or another.

As we enter the post-Halloween season of Remembrance, we hope all our readers are taking time to put on a poppy and think about the contributions of our veterans to the society we enjoy today.

It doesn't take much to help each other stay safe during the next few months. Shovel a neighbours walk and check your vehicle for winter driving.

Baseball is a fun sport to watch. In my opinion. It may be slow and methodical, with enough down time to border on tedious, but I enjoy it nonetheless.

The Alberta government’s move to bringing in additional funding to strengthen health care across the province is a welcome.

It is important in this age of divisiveness and information overload to remember to take time to step back and re-centre. That means tuning out social media once in a while and just being in your own skin with your own thoughts.

It feels like only yesterday we were overeating pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving, but time is flying and Halloween is just around the corner.

Over my 14 years of doing journalism and covering various stories of tragedy, I can’t help but think back during Fire Prevention Week on some of those fire safety stories which still haunt me to this day.

As long as someone else carries the can, and therefore bears the inevitable pain, Canadians are fearless advocates for the Promised Land of a net-zero future.
