Every church I’ve worked for since emerging wide-eyed and zombie-like from those years in seminary has been victimized by some form of vandalism during my tenure.

There are times in our lives when deja vu moments occur and I had one of those recently; I wondered why newer and younger Albertans must again fight the same battles I first fought over 45 years ago ó and which led me directly into politics.

We have all seen it on television. Parents being hauled out of arenas nationwide for getting too involved in their childís hockey game, due to violence or what some may call over-enthusiasm while cheering on their offspring. I get it.

Itís great to be back in Airdrie. I grew up here, graduated high school here (Go Mustangs!), but if youíd asked me 10 years ago ó I would have told you Iíd never be back here. Things change.

I’m a political nerd, sorry to say. It started when I was a kid and I would watch the federal election returns come in on CBC with my mom.

I have been a sucker for animals my whole life, so when it comes to them suffering, I just can’t bear it - especially when there is something that can be done to help.
